Samson and the Lion
Judges 14:4-6 (New King James Version)
But his father and mother did not know that it was of the LORD—that He was seeking an occasion to move against the Philistines. For at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel. So Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah. Now to his surprise, a young lion came roaring against him. And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.
Is there a lion that is attacking you? The bible says,” Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” (1Pe 5:8-9) Yet, as Samson, and many others were type shadows of Christ. Christ defeated the Lion, the beast, the dragon, the false prophet, and the world itself by the cross. Though many glamor at the power that was behind Samson; the brute strength. How much more the glory of Jesus Christ whose internal stregnth overcame the flesh. Which in itself is a war until we pass on and are risen with Him. – When the vision of this picture came about. The decision for this depiction is the same of Christ.
We can become stuck on the looks of Samson, his hair (Nazarite vow), or Delilah. While being distracted from the focus and purpose of Samson. That the Spirit of the Lord came upon him to become a one man war against the philistines. The bible says,”For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son.” (John 3:16) Therefore, Christ, took on this whole world by himself without a car, money, brute strength, or special abilities. He defeated and judged all mankind by obedience.
